As complex as some people make it sound, the art of DJing is mostly about one simple act: showing people music you love. The more you love your records, the better your DJ set will likely be. (Plod through a bunch of tunes you’re not that into and, well, we all know how that goes.) Maybe it’s because you need to have a real relationship with a record in order to know when and how to play it. Or maybe it’s because only some records are even capable of evoking such strong feelings in the listener. In any case, a set full of records the DJ is personally obsessed with will always make a big impression.
